Terroir Summary:
Pasqua Wines draws its character from a mosaic of estate vineyards spread across the Valpolicella and Soave appellations in the Veneto region. Elevations range from 170 m at Mizzole and Poiano in the Valpantena valley to 500 m at Monte Calvarina in the easternmost area of Soave. Soils shift dramatically across the portfolio: clay-limestone dominates the Valpantena sites, giving wines structure and depth; basaltic-limestone at Monte Vegro in eastern Valpolicella for power and aromatic complexity; and eruptive basaltic soils at Monte Calvarina leading to mineral precision in the white varieties.
Heritage:
Founded in 1925 by the Pasqua brothers, who initially traded wines from Puglia before establishing vineyards in Verona, Pasqua Wines has evolved into a leading family-run estate rooted in Valpolicella. Over three generations, the company has expanded its vineyard holdings, international reach, and reputation for Amarone and other Venetian classics, while maintaining strong ties to its Veronese terroir. Today, led by the third generation, Pasqua combines tradition with a progressive ethos—embodied in its “House of the Unconventional” philosophy—positioning itself as both a custodian of regional heritage and a driver of innovation within the global wine industry.
Philosophy:
The entrepreneurial vision, introduced by the third generation, finds its fullest expression in the “House of the Unconventional” manifesto, where experimentation, creativity, and cultural engagement shape every decision. This philosophy extends beyond style into a research-led approach in both vineyard and cellar, with continuous investment in technology, precision viticulture, and innovative techniques that reinterpret Valpolicella’s traditions. Pasqua’s wines embody a dialogue between terroir and contemporary vision, often pushing stylistic boundaries while maintaining authenticity. At the same time, the winery integrates sustainability and responsible land management into its practices, including vineyard projects focused on terroir expression and environmental stewardship, reinforcing its role as a forward-thinking, globally minded producer grounded in its Veronese roots.
People:
The winery is led by Umberto Pasqua (President), a second-generation family member who has held the role since 2008 and serves on the Valpolicella Consortium board. His sons represent the third generation: Riccardo (CEO, appointed 2015) drives global sales and strategy; Alessandro (Vice President North America) oversees North American and Canadian markets; and Andrea (Head of Business Development, appointed 2025) brings experience from Rothschild & Co and the LVMH Wines & Spirits division.
Beyond the Vine:
Since 2018, Pasqua has invested nearly €7 million supporting over 30 artists and creatives through patronage programmes in digital, multimedia, and contemporary art, leading to the company earning recognition as Wine Enthusiast’s Innovator of the Year 2023, the first Italian winery to receive the award. The winery is also a founding sponsor of the ’67 Colonne per l’Arena di Verona’ cultural initiative. In 2025, it extended its reach to Pantelleria as global distributor for Sangue d’Oro, supporting the UNESCO-recognised alberello pantesco viticultural heritage of actress Carole Bouquet.
