Cecchi is based in Castellina in Chianti, an area sometimes termed as the ‘Goldilocks of Chianti Classico’, as it fits between the heights and muscular wines of Radda and the lower- sited, plush wines of Panzano. Castellina lies in the south-east of the Classico region, at altitudes between 350 and 600m. Most of the Cecchi vineyards are at the lower end of these hills, on alluvial soils with a sporadic presence of clays, marine silts and ancient river deposits. The wines from these parts tend to be more generous and full-bodied than those at higher altitudes within the Castellina zone.
The eminently loveable style of Chianti that can be produced here has made Cecchi one of the most famous Chianti names internationally today. Now over 125 years old, Cecchi’s holdings cover five estates, including one in nearby Umbria, meaning production not only covers the gamut of Tuscan reds, but some lovely, aromatic Vermentino. The group has also recently purchased the Villa Rosa winery and estate in the same UGA.
