When the Founder of Chopin Vodka, Tadeusz Dorda, took control of a century-old distillery 30 years ago, he understood he was buying a piece of Polish history. Since then, Dorda and his family-oriented team have done everything they can to preserve Poland’s traditional vodka-making legacy, which has always been focussed on quality and purity, but never at a loss of flavour.
It takes over six months and 40 potatoes to make a bottle of Chopin Potato Vodka. The potatoes are grown without any chemical inputs on Chopin’s estate and within a 30-kilometre radius of the distillery in Krzesk, on the eastern lowlands of Poland, then harvested in season. Chopin processes and ferments all the potatoes onsite, then uses a 19th century copper column still, for a methodical quadruple distillation. The distillate then mellows in large barrels before bottling. The farm-to-bottle production, painstaking attention and age-old technique ensure any Chopin Vodka has a unique, authentic and premium taste.
In a world where we have been trained to believe that Vodka should be a neutral spirit, Chopin vodkas are personality-filled, bold and rich. Ingredients are all sourced from local farmers, many within 20km of the distillery, and so local ingredients are key. Potato, rye and wheat form the framework of the range, with their creamy, peppery and delicate natures respectively. These are joined by the single-vintage, barrel-aged Family Reserve, plus extra initiatives as Chopin develops the range with exciting small-batch bottlings.
