This is from the tiny DOC of Soave, located on volcanic hillsides between Verona and Vicenza in northern Italy. The blend is 80% Garganega and 20% Trebbiano di Soave, both native grapes to the Veneto region. This is made simply, with selected fruit undergoing a short maceration then fermentation in stainless steel at a cool controlled temperature. The wine is pure and fragrant, with floral top notes overlaying ripe apple and green almond characters. Delicate, medium-bodied and refreshing, this works beautifully with fish-based pasta and risotto dishes, or can also be sipped as an aperitif.
