Heritage:
Bellussi was established in 1993 when Enrico Martellozzo, together with his father Paolo, acquired and redeveloped a historic site in Valdobbiadene. The name references the traditional bellussera pruning system, reflecting an early connection to local viticultural practices. Since then, the estate has undergone sustained expansion, including vineyard restoration and the construction of a modern winery, positioning Bellussi as a quality-focused producer within the Prosecco Superiore DOCG zone. From the mid-2010s, Bellussi began to broaden its scope beyond the Prosecco Hills. In more recent years, Bellussi has extended its sparkling production beyond Glera through the introduction of a Blanc de Noirs made from Pinot Nero grown in Oltrepò Pavese—one of Italy’s most established regions for Pinot-based sparkling wines; plus an alpine Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs from Trentino-Alto Adige. This development builds on the estate’s technical expertise in refermentation while broadening its stylistic range.
Philosophy:
Bellussi’s production model combines careful fruit sourcing with precise cellar work, using technology to support rather than override site expression. Vineyard practices are aligned with the principles of integrated production used widely across northern Italy, prioritising reduced chemical use, targeted interventions and the long-term preservation of soil and site balance (SQNPI). Particular attention is given to preserving varietal character through controlled fermentation and refermentation processes, alongside a consciously restrained use of sulphites, typically well below permitted limits). The objective is to produce wines that clearly reflect origin—showing definition, freshness and structural balance—rather than relying on overt sweetness or aromatic manipulation.
People:
The company is led by the Martellozzo family, with Enrico Martellozzo building on the foundations established alongside his father Paolo. Today, the next generation is actively involved: Francesca oversees international markets, while Giovanni contributes to winemaking following formal oenological training. Production is directed by winemaker Francesco Adami, whose long-standing collaboration with the family has been central to scaling operations and refining the house style across both Bellussi and associated projects.
Beyond the Vine:
Bellussi operates within the UNESCO-listed Prosecco Hills, where the landscape reflects centuries of interaction between agriculture and terrain. The ciglioni system, alongside the broader patchwork of vineyards, forest and farmland, contributes to both biodiversity and the visual identity of the region. Beyond viticulture, the estate maintains strong links to Venetian cultural institutions, acting as an official supplier to events such as the Venice Biennale and the Venice International Film Festival—reinforcing a broader positioning that connects wine, place and contemporary culture.
