“Terremoto” is Italian for earthquake, a reference to the unique geological history of the vineyard from which this wine is sourced. The vineyard sits in a section of McLaren Vale influenced by ancient fault lines and significant tectonic activity that helped shape the region’s distinctive soils and landscape. The wine was created to showcase a site capable of producing Shiraz/Syrah with exceptional power, structure and longevity while expressing the influence of these geologically significant soils. It is sourced from the single-vineyard Terremoto site in McLaren Vale, planted on red loam soils over limestone with a north-westerly aspect that promotes even ripening. Fruit is harvested at night, destemmed and cold-soaked for three days before open fermentation with cultured yeast. Maturation is in seasoned French oak for eight months. The winemaking approach is designed to emphasise site expression, purity of fruit and structural longevity rather than overt oak influence.

Now entering a beautiful stage of maturity, the 2014 Terremoto Syrah displays an enticing combination of power and elegance. Aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum and forest fruits are layered with notes of mocha, spice, dark chocolate and subtle earthiness. The palate is rich and concentrated yet remarkably vibrant, driven by intense dark fruit flavours and supported by fine, integrated tannins.
