From its beginnings in 1986, Howard Park has made Riesling from the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia. Growing in old and degraded soils of low fertility, the vines work hard, producing wines with strong evidence of the terroir, intensity of flavour and in most years, excellent aging potential. The Great Southern Riesling is an annual blend of the finest cut of free juice from select vineyards in the Mount Barker and Porongurup subregions of the Great Southern. Each vineyard block is vinified separately in stainless steel. Blending occurs in June of the vintage year.

“Beautifully composed with the odd hint of its regional birthplace with an ongoing thread of acacia, wild spring flowers and citrus blossom on the aroma together with lemon balm, lemon zest, grapefruit pith, ginger, and spice. It’s one racy youngster of a Riesling, youthful and full of promise. Acid heads will love the brisk acidity, others will see the benefit of some further ageing. I’m sitting on the fence with this question, I can see both parties have a point. The juiciness of the citrus fruits is a real feature on the palate together with tart zesty notes, a touch of acacia and herbals like rosemary and green apple.
