From the 40-year-old Fontanele single vineyard, this is 100% Sangiovese growing on vines at a lofty 450m above sea level. A meticulous berry-by-berry selection preceded a controlled fermentation in concrete and four weeks maceration. Malolactic occurred in concrete, after which the wine was pressed and sent to oak barriques (50% new) for 20 months.
2022
2022 was a vintage with pronounced diurnal temperature range during the final ripening phase, providing a Sangiovese with exceptional structure and freshness. On the nose it releases ripe cherry and redcurrant notes, chasing floral hints of violets with tobacco undertones. It’s elegant on the palate with perfectly integrated tannic texture, and balsamic notes entering on the lingering finish.

2021
“The 2021 Toscana Rosso is another fine effort from Vallepicciola. Bright red-toned fruit, mint, spice, new leather, pomegranate and orange peel all race across the palate. This modern, sleek Sangiovese has a lot to offer. More than anything through, I am very intrigued as to what the future might hold here once the vines are older.” 94 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
