Vallepicciola’s Riserva is 100% estate-grown Sangiovese, hand-picked across several parcels at around 400m altitude and higher. Fermentation was temperature-controlled in stainless steel, followed by 15 days maceration before pressing and malolactic fermentation in oak. Maturation was for 24 months in barriques (20% new).

The 2021 vintage in Chianti Classico has been deemed by Wine Spectator as the best in recent history (98/100 and the highest rated in 30 years), certainly one for collectors. This has great complexity on the nose, with florals and black pepper alongside deep, dark fruit notes. The palate is plush and ripe but beautifully balanced with acidity, powdery tannins and lasting length.

“A particularly fresh and drinkable version of Chianti Classico Riserva. Brilliant ruby, the nose offers hints of cherry and incense with hints of laurel and eucalyptus. The taste is taut, the acid vein is well integrated with the fruity component. Longlasting and savory closure.” 97+ points, Luca Gardini, Gardini Notes
