Tenuta Alzatura was established by Famiglia Cecchi in the 1990s and covers three separate vineyards with individual terroirs producing distinctly different versions of the indigenous grape of the region, Sagrantino. For the rosso, this dry-toned, tannic grape plays a smaller part next to 70% Sangiovese and Merlot, providing more berry fruit character and softer plumpness to the final wine. All grapes were vinified and matured separately (in stainless steel), then blended just before bottling.

“This Montefalco Rosso, crafted from Sangiovese, Merlot and Sagrantino, opens with evolving aromas of blackberry jam, cracked black pepper, and dried red currants. The palate is well-structured, with elegant tannins that provide a framework for the wine’s luscious fruit flavors. An earthy undertone emerges on the finish, reminiscent of damp forest floor and truffles” 92 points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast
2021
The long ripening period and diverse diurnal temperateures of the 2021 vintage provided some excellent, complex fruit. Round, full and intense, this wine has ripe dark fruit characters of blackberry and cassis with back-notes of savoury herbs, vanilla and violets. 2021 was the first vintage these vineyards were managed 100% organically.
