There is only one white grape variety on the Alzatura estate, a small plot of organically farmed, rare and indigenous Trebbiano Spolentino. This is a perfect partner to the flagship variety of the estate, Sagrantino, which is also only grown in Umbria. Trebbiano Spolentino isn’t related to the widely-farmed standard Trebbiano (or Ugni Blanc), and instead of the latter’s often bland neutrality, this grape can have deep floral characters, and when vintages permit it, almost Sauvignon-like tropicality. The site is at an altitude of 370 metres above sea level, yeilds low and is hand-picked. The 2021 spent 10 months in barrique and six in bottle before release.
2021
2021 was a beautifully balanced vintage, producing a heady version of Spolentino with wildflower, citrus and peach aromas. Gentle phenolics and hazelnut notes meet on a slightly viscous palate together with a mineral line and zippy acidity.
“This Montefalco Bianco opens with aromas of white peach, acacia blossoms, roasted almonds and a hint of citrus zest. Zippy flavors of green apple, ripe pear, sea salt and wet stones define the elegant palate that lingers for a long while.” 91 points, Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast
“Aria di Casa retains excellent acidity, revealing through a 10-month aging in barriques an evolving character that transforms into aromas reminiscent of graphite and cloves, as well as ripe pomelo and magnolia. It boasts charisma and energy, capable of reaching fruity echoes of good intensity and palate persistence, making it adept at supporting more elaborate and flavorful dishes.” 93+ points, Vert De Vin
