Winter Whites

Winter Whites

White wine drinkers don’t stop drinking white because it’s cold, but most would agree it’s not time for a crisp little Marlborough Savvy B, when we’re all eating pot pies, stews and toasties by the fire. Finding texture and depth of flavour, plus the balance that means a wine doesn’t need to be served icy-cold becomes more important in these winter months, and we have a perfect little mixed dozen for you below. Full tasting notes and accolades are now available on our website, so click the links to find out more.

Finca Fella Cala Rey Blanco 2025
Verdejo/Sauvignon Blanc | Castille-La Mancha, Spain
It’s organic, high altitude and 70% Verdejo, a native grape to central Spain, produced here to a medium-bodied style with tropical notes.

Claymore Sunshine of Your Love 2025
Pinot Gris | Clare Valley / Adelaide Hills, SA
Similar to the Alsacian style, this is deeply fruited and elegantly textured. The colour is just off-blush and the label is a knock-out.

Gibson Discovery Rd Fiano 2025
Fiano | Barossa Valley, SA
The low yields of 2025 produced an even more intense and complex Fiano for Gibson than usual. It’s textured and bold with just a twist of phenolic grip.

Pasqua Romeo & Juliet Bianco 2024
Gargenega | Veneto, IT
Soave, but not as you know it, this is the same variety and region, but it’s had a touch of skins and a little appassimento to add oodles of complexity and depth.

Sir Paz Fume Sauvignon Blanc 2025
Sauvignon Blanc | Yarra Valley, VIC
Volcanic soils, French oak and just a whisper of residual (12 g/L) provide depth and weight to this mineral-tinged cool climate white that shares little in common with the Marlborough versions.

Fantini Calalenta Pecorino 2025
Pecorino | Abruzzo, IT
Bringing the sunshine of Abruzzo to wintery Australia, this is supremely opulent with luscious and full flavours of stone fruits and florals.

Vallepicciola Pievasciata Chardonnay IGT 2025
Chardonnay | Tuscany, Italy
It’s off a Chianti Classico site at altitude, from Guide Espresso’s winery of the year 2026. It’s bold, with flavour from ripe fruit and a slow press, not oak.

Leone De Castris Messapia Bianco IGT 2025
Verdeca | Puglia, Italy
A variety you’ve never tried from an underexplored wine region increasingly appearing on travellers’ hit lists. Big stone fruit flavours, texture and lip-smacking acidity.

Cusumano Insolia Terre Siciliane IGT 2024
Insolia | Sicily, Italy
Insolia has gorgeous ripe flavours and pulpy texture, salinity and buoyant acid when grown with low yields and produced in Cusumano’s elegant style.

Nino Negri Alpi Retiche Bianco IGT 2024
Nebbiolo | Lombardy, Italy
Yes, not a typo, this is 100% Nebbiolo. Who knew it could produce a citrus-nutty-mineral white wine from Nino Negri’s high altitude sites in Valtellina!?

Donnachiara Fiano Di Avellino DOCG 2025
Fiano | Campania, Italy
The O.G. Fiano from southern Italy is known for its intensity and richness, plus a different level of complexity, with spice, minerality and a savoury finish.

Alberelli di Giodo Carricante Sicilia IGT 2023
Carricante | Mt Etna, Italy
Brand new in (and mentioned above), this is from a Contrade so high up Mt Etna it’s pushed out of the DOC area. Pristine, mineral and intense in the greatest way.
