Stefano Stefani comes from the rolling hills of Tuscany where his grandfather owned a vineyard and was an avid collector of fine wines. Some years after moving to Australia in 1985, Stefano and his wife Rina acquired their first vineyard at Long Gully Road in the Yarra Valley, planted to Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. A few years later, a satellite property was purchased at Heathcote, which had 14.4 ha of Shiraz and Bordeaux varieties. Holdings in the Yarra continued to expand slowly but surely to a total of 12 ha, allowing for a progression towards organics and the establishment of a very special parcel of Sangiovese—which contains seven different clones, including scion material from the original Stefani Vineyard in Tuscany.
All Stefani wines are estate-grown and hand-picked. The Vigna range includes blends from the Yarra Valley estate, while the other wines are single-site bottlings from one of the Yarra holdings (The View and Boccallupo) or the Heathcote vineyard.
