The Mount Barrow vineyard is in the Mount Barker region of Great southern. One of the coolest Australian sites available for the production of Marchand & Burch wines, the site is at nearly 400m altitude and planted to the French Chardonnay clones of 95, 96, 277 and 76, with smaller portions of Gin Gin and American clones. Several individual parcels are cooled, hand sorted, then whole bunch pressed to separate the finest free run juice. Natural fermentation is in French oak: around one-third each of new, one-year-old and older barriques and puncheons. After maturation on lees in barrel and tank for 10 months and partial malolactic conversion, the parcels are finally blended to tank before bottling.

“Immediately appealing with its lemony flavour and brisk acidity, which gives a tightness and brightness across the palate. Cedary, spicy oak and a coating of nutty lees add extra depth, but mostly this is a refreshing drink, and ready now.” 93 Points, Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
92 points, Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
93 Points, Andrew Calliard, Wine Pilot
