Marchand & Burch Mount Barrow Pinot Noir

Select blocks from the Mount Barrow Vineyard in Mount Barker are protected from the coldest airflows and were planted to Burgundy clones 114 and 115 in 2005. All batches for this wine are handpicked and cooled in vented crates beforehand sorting and destemming. Approximately 15 to 20% of whole bunches is included in the ferment, which is subject to gentle plunging and careful application of air throughout. Individual parcels are pressed to French barriques and puncheons (~25% new). After 6 to 9 months the wine is blended to tank before minimal fining, light filtration and bottling.

2024

“A wine that has both depth and generosity, albeit delivered with a fine, elegant, medium-weight structure. The colour is bright and brilliant. The aromas release an engaging combination of red cherry, raspberry, and a note of strawberry, already showing complexity. The palate has a smooth, satin-like textural feel with fine chalky tannins in support and just the right touch of oak, with that 25 percent new portion an important contributor. A crisp acidity drives a very long finish.” 96 points, Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot
