Trained onto a single cordon wire, the vertical growth habit produces canopies that help shelter the fruit from the intense sun, naturally helping to create a later-ripening environment in an area otherwise known for its warm growing conditions. Fruit from Tscharke’s Stone Well vineyard sees partial destemming, maceration, warm fermentation and gentle cap management to produce a generously structured wine. It was aged in terracotta amphorae for 13 months.

“Light crimson in the glass with notes of ripe plum, raspberry and cranberries set on a canvas of gingery spice, red licorice, earth, cola and purple flowers. There is a lovely flow of spiced, plummy fruit on the palate that’s pure and true. Superfine sandy tannins and a bright yet stony line of acidity drive the wine forward.” 95 points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
