Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet were hand-picked from Krondorf and Eden Valley blocks, then destemmed and given a three-day cold soak before fermentation commenced. Two different aromatic yeast strains were selected for their ability to enhance perfume and mouthfeel. The wine was bottled immediately post-ferment to retain aromatic character.

An extremely low yielding, dry vintage was observed in this 40th anniversary release of one of Australia’s most famous rosé wines, resulting in a very potent rosé this year, with a colour even richer than Virginia’s already trademark deep hue. The nose is perfumed, with notes of Turkish delight and the varietal musk of Grenache. The palate is generous and full of personality, with layers of wild berries and pomegranate, finishing with a snap of ginger and white pepper spice.

“I cut my teeth drinking this stuff with my dodgy mates at Milk Beach in Sydney. A blend of grenache, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and riesling, it’s a little dark in colour (think watered-down Ribena) and carries a little more oomph in the aromas and flavours, but that is sometimes what life dictates, and it’s a cold stone classic.” 93 points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
