When Alessandro Cellai visited earlier this year, he brought with him a selection of Vallepicciola’s ‘Grand Cru’ wines and we fell in love. These next-gen Super Tuscans are the reason Vallepicciola is being touted as “one of the most important wineries in the area” by the likes of Gambero Rosso, while Forbes and Vinous have both hinted at their excitement for the future now that we’ve had Decanter’s 2009 ‘Star of Tomorrow’ at the helm for a few years. The Sangiovese and Miglioré (Cabernet blend) both have 94 points from Suckling and Vinous respectively, while the Bianco, a 100% Chardonnay represents an unparalleled and exciting direction for Tuscan whites.
Also from the stable of Vallepicciola is P. Vallée. This collaboration between Vallepicciola (Petite Vallée and Vallepicciola both translate as ‘little valley’) and Forget-Brimont bring some Premier Cru Champagnes into our portfolio. Considering Cellai’s and owner Bruno Bolfo’s obsession with the Pinot Noir grape, we’ve shipped the Premier Cru Brut (50% Pinot Noir with Meunier and Chardonnay) and the Premier Cru Blanc de Noirs (80% Pinot Noir, 20% Meunier). Stay tuned for Grand Cru and special bottlings to follow.
