In the upper Valpolicella, vineyards sit at an altitude ideal for the creation of light, refreshing rosé wines. This is 100% Merlot, grown up to 720 m altitude around the commune of Negrar. The large diurnal range provides wonderful aromatics and sustained acidity in the resultant grapes, key to achieving balance in this wine. In the winery a protective approach to winemaking maintains the delicate character developed in the vineyard. A very soft pressing with dry ice ensures the wine keeps its acidity and aromas, while allowing a gentle extraction of colour and tannin. The fermentation temperature is also cool, before the wine matures in stainless steel on fine lees with regular batonnage for two months.
2023
Previous vintages of Rosa dei Masi were a slightly richer, darker style made with the Refosco grape, and employing the appassimento technique for added extraction. Here however is a pure and vibrantly styled rosé with intense floral aromas, hints of red fruit on the palate and overall freshness. This is a wonderful vintage for this wine and paints a more contemporary picture, which has been well received by consumers and media alike.
