This is 100% Nerello Mascalese from four contrade: Solicchiata, Verzella, Guardiola and Feudo di Mezzo. The vines have an average age of 20 years and are single-stake and espalier-trained across a total area of 12 hectares, ranging between the bush vines of terraced Guardiola at over 800m above sea level, through to the espalier-trained vines on the home vineyard at Verzella near the winery at just under 600m. After a manual harvest, the grapes were destemmed and macerated over 12 days at warm temperatures before gentle pressing. Malolactic fermentation followed in stainless steel before the wine was transferred to large-format oak for maturation.
Weighted between a Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir, this is a deep ruby in colour, with spicy pepper aromas, blackcurrants and hints of mountain herbs. The palate is both vibrant and intense with well-integrated tannins.

“Brilliant, lightening ruby garnet. Open, delicate bouquet with aromas of red currant jelly and raspberry, followed by a hint of sweet mocha and cocoa. Round and smooth on the palate, unfolding with finely textured tannins; juicy and inviting, with a long, pleasantly acid-driven finish” 92 points, Falstaff

“A good example of Etna Rosso showing hints of iron and minerals to the savory cranberries and dried oranges. Nice transparency on the palate despite the assertive, firm tannins that are well-chiselled on the palate. Shows structure and length. Drink through 2029.” 92 points, James Suckling
