Cusumano sources most of its Nero d’Avola from the warm, south-facing vineyards near the coast in Butera, where the territory is characterized by calcareous, white soil, rich in minerals. This helps produce an elegant rather than potent Nero which stands out for its energy and complexity.

2022
The 2022 vintage in Sicily was sunny and very dry, producing high quality, small and concentrated berries. This kind of vintage works well with the Cusumano ethos and vineyards, with careful harvest and vinification working to promote acidity and perfume along with the ripe and intense dark-fruited styling of the vintage.
“A well-built, structured and vivid nero d’avola, showing notes of dark berries, stones and wafers on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Attractive and focused, with more purple-fruit character in the finish. Drink or hold.” 91 points, James Suckling
2021
The 2021 vintage in Sicily was a very warm one, but the Cusumano team have managed to ensure the fruit has retained great acidity to partner with the slightly plumper than usual, ripe, dark-fruited styling of the vintage.
“This is quite sweet and rich with a ton of blackberries and delicate herb and spice notes. Beautiful balance, thanks to the lively acidity and fresh tannins. Long, licorice finish. Drink or hold.” 91 points, James Suckling
“Umami notes of soy sauce and black olives, a bit of mossy underbrush and berries swirl together on the nose of the Cusumano estate Nero d’Avola. The palate pops with the snap of cherry and sour plum skin, the astringency of bark and top soil, angular tannins and lively acid.” 89 points, Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast
