Cecchi Torrebona Vernaccia Di San Gimignano DOCG

The vineyards laid in the valleys around the stunning hill-top village of San Gimignano are some of the most picturesque you will find in Tuscany. This Vernaccia comes from a 48-hectare site surrounded by olive groves just to the south of the town. Each site has a southern exposure, soaking up afternoon sun through the early Tuscan autumn.

This wine was crafted in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to retain and express the natural varietal characters of green apple. Expect light floral notes and a saline edge, finishing with the DOCG’s trademark hint of bitter almond. Medium‑bodied and slightly textural with crisp acidity, it’s an easy match with seafood, creamy risotto, fresh cheeses and vegetable dishes with artichokes or asparagus.

2023

Some are touting the 2023 from San Gimignano the ‘vintage of the century’ despite the difficult conditions leading up to harvest and massive loss of yeilds due to cool, wet weather right at the wrong time. This wine certainly has more depth and complexity than usual, a rounder mouthfeel and more penetrating acidity to partner its upbeat citrus and green apple fruit with delicate white florals.
