Cecchi’s entry to Chianti is 90% Sangiovese, with just a 10% blend of Canaiolo and Colorino. The fruit is sourced from a selection of vineyards on the expansive estate, mainly the lower areas around Castellina at 270m above sea level. Cecchi aims for this to be straightforward introduction to the Cecchi style, and a pure illustration of Sangiovese in the region. To this end it was simply fermented and matured in stainless steel for approximately six months, then aged in bottle before release.
Bright and aromatic with lip-smacking cherry/strawberry fruit, orange rind and spice, this is medium bodied, fleshy and primary-fruit-driven, and the freshest red in the Cecchi range. It’s a perfect wine for the table and will suit a wide variety of dishes. It will age quite well for up to another three years, but ideally should be consumed while the fruit is bright and forward. Don’t be scared to give this wine a slight chill in warmer weather – the vibrant acidity and juicy fruit characters will still shine at around 10-12 degrees.
