The Sicilia DOC stretches across the sundrenched island of Sicily. Deeply rooted in local culture, Nero d’Avola has long been celebrated here for its deep inky colour and robust flavour without the heaviness often accompanying these qualities in red wines. The fruit was sourced from several vineyard parcels, where abundant sunshine and coastal influence help develop ripe flavours and natural balance. Destemming, whole berry maceration, early remontage and post-ferment délestage were utilised for soft extraction of aromas, flavours and tannins. There is no oak influence.

“Red fruits, blueberry, a jubey raspberry thing, iron filings, dried herbs and orange peel. It’s medium-bodied, has a bit of crunch to acidity, a sort of sappy cranberry bite, a dusty grip to tannin, with a dry finish of decent length. Simple, but refreshing and fun is the import here. Easy to guzzle.” 90 points, Gary Walsh, Winefront
