We alluded to this new brand in our newsletter last month, when we were fortunate to have Maurizio Bertachini in town at the same time our first shipment of Nino Negri wines arrived. This is an eye-opening range of Nebbiolo from a sliver of land over 40km long, stretching down extreme, rocky slopes above the Adda River. Anyone obsessed with Barolo needs to have a look at the range here. They provide a cool, alpine version of the grape, still full-bodied, but with racier acidity and pronounced elegance, even at only a couple of years bottle age.
North of Milan and closer to St Moritz than Bergamo, it’s a special landscape producing some very distinctive wines, and Nino Negri sits at the pinnacle. The range includes Nebbiolos, regional and cru-specific, plus a very original white blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, a touch of Nebbiolo and Incrocio Manzoni—a delicate, aromatic hybrid of Riesling and Pinot Blanc. Full information and tasting notes can be found on our Nino Negri page.
