Tassinaia is the blend which brought Terriccio to the world stage. It was first made by Castello’s new order, after the Ferri family took control in the 70s. Very tight yields of just 900 grams per vine provide the polyphenolic charge combined with softness that gives these wines their remarkable aging capacity. Named after the farmhouse on one of the hills called Le Tassinaie (‘the place of the stones’), it’s the most forward of the range. Generous and succulent, it now sometimes also contains a dash of Syrah. It is matured for 18 months in second use Allier tonneaux.

“Deep aromas of currants and berries, with hints of scorched orange peel and chili chocolate. The medium-bodied palate shows focused currants riding firm, medium-grain tannins and leading to a long, flavorful finish. I like the concentration of fruit here. Ever present and ever fresh. Drink now for the freshness, but this should mature well over the next few years.” 93 points, James Suckling

“The wine is fermented partly in steel and partly in oak and brings a breeze of spice from the get-go. This second-level red from Castello del Terriccio offers plenty of rich, exuberant and succulent fruit. I imagine it will open nicely over the next few years.” 93+ points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
