If you are Italian wine-obsessed and haven’t heard of Carlo Ferrini then we’re here to invite you to the party. Ferrini has spent more than 40 years shaping the success of some of Italy’s most celebrated wineries. An architect of the modern Sangiovese style, his influence on Italian wine is hard to overstate, and his name has become synonymous with quality, innovation and critical acclaim. Giodo is the passion project he created in 2000 to hand down to his daughter Bianca, a meticulously managed Montalcino estate with a Brunello that is epic to say the least (Red Wine of the Year in Gambero Rosso’s Vini d’Italia 2026 guide, plus more accolades here), plus other spectacular Sangiovese wines from the carefully selected clones planted across the tiny estate. The Giodo vision also extends further south through Alberelli di Giodo, where Bianca leads the production of Carricante and Nerello Mascalese that are grown at such extreme altitude on the ancient contrade of Mount Etna that they actually lie above the DOC boundary.
