Donnachiara Irpinia Aglianico DOC

From the 20ha Donnachiara home vineyard in Montefalcione, this is harvested at tighter volumes and is a bolder wine than the IGP, but shares its bright and approachable character. Fermentation was in steel and a short maturation played out in barriques.

A heartwarming bouquet of maraschino cherries, prunes and spice leads to a medium- to full-bodied palate. In the mouth excitement builds with amaro/orange peel notes, smoke and flint, all wrapped in juicy acidity. It finishes long, spicy and perfumed.

“This is a bright and fruity aglianico with orange-peel and violet character. Raspberry, too. Medium body and light tannins with blackberry, cherry, smoke and bark flavors. Fresh and delicious at the end. A bright and fruity aglianico that shows the character of the grape and the region. Drink or hold.” 93 points, James Suckling
