This is a blend of estate fruit from across the Monfalletto vineyards within the commune of La Morra. The soils here are clayey and calcareous, with various levels of magnesium oxide and manganese, and house vines from 15 to 50 years of age. Each parcel was harvested and vinified separately. Fermentation was in stainless steel before the wine was drawn off into a combination of wood formats, origins and ages, where maturation progressed for between 18 and 24 months before final assemblage and bottling.
Cordero’s Monfalletto varies in style with vintage conditions, but generally has a reputation as being a denser and more muscular style of Barolo, with concentrated up-front fruit allowing for more immediate consumption, but firm structure also suited for long-term aging.

“The bouquet is liberal in its plum and cherry aromas, complemented by a posy of floral scents, along with tobacco and menthol. Lovely complexity and allure. Equally enticing in its fruit expression on the palate, succulent with blood orange tang, warming spice and balsamic savouriness, the tannins ample and supple, the finish offering more berry sweetness with a liquorice edge. Excellent.” 96 points, Stephen Blandford, The Real Review

“The wine opens with aromas of macerated ripe berries, complemented by dried rosebuds and sweet spices that develop with more time in the glass. Lush layers of black cherry that evolve into darker hued fruits with savory spice, black tea and hints of wild mushrooms all swell to a finish that leads to a full-bodied, sumptuous character that is ready to drink but will also go the distance. “… Shows grit, density and rich texture. The house style prizes muscle and brawn in this vintage that lends itself handily to these qualities. Pressed cherry and blackberry cede to licorice, cured tobacco and iron ore.” 95 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
