Kellerei-Cantina Andrian works with growers spread over 80 hectares between 260 and 800m above sea level in the DOC area on the western side of the Adige River. The soils are limestone-rich providing depth and tension to the wines. Despite its location between Trento and the Alps, the climate here is quite Mediterranean, but also benefits from cool evenings in the ripening period due to downslope breezes from Mount Gantkofel.
This Riserva grows on the sheltered mid-slopes of the DOC, on soils of erythroid, argillaceous lime and dolomite rock. The growing philosophy focuses on the ability of the terroir to produce fully developed fruit flavours with penetrating acid balance. The key difference between this and the entry wine is found in the strict selection of fruit and tighter yields. Vinification is primarily in stainless steel, with a 30% component matured for 6 months in large oak barrels.
This wine shares the Floreado’s higher-toned herbal spectrum of white flowers and nettle, but there are deeper savoury notes of sage and mint to back these. The primary fruit flavours too, are richer and more concentrated with luxurious apricot and zesty lime also present alongside the tropical pineapple and melon. A slight smokiness tapers on the juicy, medium-bodied and lengthy palate.
