Translating as ‘small cellar’ in the local dialect, Canevel is a very hands-on operation based in the historic heart of Prosecco production at Valdobbiadene-Conegliano. Canevel was partially acquired by the Masi group in 2016. Expert production, including precise yeast strain selection, the use of small, pressurised fermenters and long and slow fermentations mean these wines often stand above their peers. Also differing to the general modus operandi of the region, most Canevel wines are entirely estate grown.
Glera grapes were grown on estate vineyards with soil that is rich in clay, sandstone and marine marl. After a manual harvest, Canevel fermented the grapes slowly at cool, controlled temperatures. Canevel’s unique vinification combined with the elegant balance of minerality and florals from the premium terroir produce a Prosecco with rare elegance and softness. This is the reason for the name Setàge, which translates as ‘silk’.
