The Gattera Cru covers 11 hectares, and within it are a variety of different exposures, altitudes, land morphologies, microclimates, varietal clones and vine ages. There are two distinct parcels totalling just one hectare on the highest southwest slope of the cru. Here are some very old vines (over 50 years) are rooted in clay soil around a century-old Lebanese cedar tree. Time and time again they have proven to be capable of giving wines of greater depth, concentration and character. Winemaking is as per the Monfalletto, with fermentation in steel, then malolactic and maturation in a variety of wooden casks.
2018
“The organic Cordero di Montezemolo 2018 Barolo Gattera shows a generous and open personality with layers of dark fruit, spice, pressed rose and licorice. This wine is assembled from a blend of the best clusters from the higher elevations of the Gattera MGA in La Morra.” 95 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
