Kellerei-Cantina Andrian works with growers spread over 80 hectares between 260 and 800m above sea level in the DOC area on the western side of the Adige River. The soils are limestone-rich providing depth and tension to the wines. Despite its location between Trento and the Alps, the climate here is quite Mediterranean, but also benefits from cool evenings in the ripening period due to downslope breezes from Mount Gantkofel.
The Pinot Noir Riserva comes off a single site of loamy limestone soil mixed with white dolomite stone, at 470m altitude. After a hand harvest, the fruit was fermented in steel with gentle must movement, then sent to new barriques for malolactic fermentation and maturation. The concentration of the controlled-harvest fruit combined with the new oak treatment provide for a remarkably deep and luscious alpine Pinot Noir with velvet fluidity and spicy/candied back-notes to purple florals and dark cherry flavours.
