When we commissioned these wines from our long-term partners in Italy, we were looking for value, food-friendly wines that would represent indigenous varieties from their sympathetic regions and, hopefully introduce some new drinkers into the Italian sphere. So, while it’s not the 95+ point level ratings we have on some of the other wines in this newsletter, the apt acclaim we’ve just had on our first two wines from this range has us pretty darn chuffed. Il Vignaiolo’s 2023 Sangiovese picked up Buy of the Week in The Real Review’s recent Vino-Italiano feature, with Hooke saying “A very, very attractive Sangiovese, with a lot of the savoury characters that I look for in Italian wines”, then going on to discuss why it goes so well with food. The 2023 Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC has also picked up a Top Value rating, with Gabrielle Poy noting: “Alpine spices and green apple lead into an up-front and tangy palate which invigorates the tastebuds… At this price it won’t disappoint”
