Cantine del Notaio

Aglianico del Vulture is nicknamed ‘Barolo of the south’- a bold, tannic and long-lived wine that grows around the extinct volcano of Monte Vulture in the Basilicata region, about halfway between Bari and Naples. Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, owner and winegrower at Cantine del Notaio is undoubtedly the champion of the grape and this region in modern history. He’s also responsible for some of the most elegant and awarded expressions of Aglianico worldwide. He has 40 hectares of biodynamically run ancient vineyards here, across altitudes between 300 and 650m. The volcanic soil is fertile and rich in mineral elements, laid over thick, deep tuff rock, which also houses the winery’s cellar network – a honeycomb of ancient grottos dating back to 1600 and developed by Franciscan Monks. Our range shows the multiple Tre-Bicchieri-awarded Repertorio, then two premium Aglianico wines with further bottle age, Sigillo and La Firma.
